Je suis Charlie

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what I want to document in my scrapbooks.  It’s important to me that future generations get a sense of the world as I know it so I tend to attempt layouts about the world around me and how current events impact me.  I’ve scrapbooked everything from the Olympics (especially the fencing!) to the September 11th tragedy.    I don’t shy away from scrapping politics from elections to political rallies, Supreme Court decisions and more.   I still need to make a page or two about my experience at the Rally to Restore Sanity/Fear hosted by Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

The terrorist attacks in Paris last week left me shocked and hurt.  The idea that journalists and artists/cartoonists would be murdered for their work is both appalling and ludicrous.  It’s difficult to articulate the feelings this tragedy evoked but I want to make sure I document them.  While a picture may be worth a thousand words, the images of Parisiennes holding up pencils and signs reading “NOT AFRAID” and “JE SUIS CHARLIE” don’t tell the whole story.

Do you have ideas for incorporating world events and your reaction to them in your scrapbooks?  Please share them in the comments.
